On Friday, January 24, 2020, “Waiting for Contemporary Illusions”, the official presentation event of the artistic installation project “Contemporary Illusions – The Hole”, conceived by Simone Lingua exclusively for the city of Pisa, will take place in Pisa at the church Santa Maria della Spina. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Pisa and curated by Manuela Antonucci and Tiziana Tommei. For the occasion, a selection of the artist’s production will be exhibited: Works of kinetic art, in the form of sculptures and installations, created from 2015 to the present. Originally from Cuneo, the artist lives in Arezzo since he joined the team of Studio Baciocchi as a creative in 2004; in parallel with the research in the field of kinetic art, in September 2018 he laid the foundations of an installation plan, later called “Contemporary Illusions”, which includes the cities of Pisa, Florence , Rome and Naples, among others.

The event
“The choice of location refers to the object around which the event revolves: the artistic installation concept designed by the artist for the city of Pisa and, more precisely, for the external façade of the church Santa Maria della Spina. The project is part of a corpus, “Contemporary Illusions”, that proposes interventions in different Italian cities, through the application of reflective materials to cover parts of the most representative historical monuments. It is interesting to note that, in addition to the installation, the architecture of the church Santa Maria della Spina itself is a feature of the link with the artist’s work: a casket of compact volume, geometrically modulated by two-tone marble, whose image is at once hieratic and sacred, since it is enveloped by a perpetual dynamism, thanks to the reflection generated by the (natural) mirror of the waters of the river Arno”(Tiziana Tommei).

The exhibition
The solo exhibition presents a selection of the artist’s works, created between 2015 and 2020, related to research in the field of kinetic and optical art. From the sculptural works in super-mirrored steel and plexiglass respectively called “Kinetic Cylinder” (2015) and “Kinetic Cube” (2016), to the installation of “Kinetic Paintings” (2016) in mirrored plexiglass, to the most recent ” Kinetic Domes ” (2018), in which he combines op-art effects with kinetics to conclude with the last unpublished plastic experiments studied last year and never exhibited.
“A kineticism, then, rich in concentric symmetries and fluctuating materials – sometimes hypnotic – that allows us to glimpse, with synthesis and balance, the movement behind which, albeit hidden, lies the meaning of the creations on display. Even those that seem to be of a more esthetic nature still manage to capture the attention of the viewer who, attracted by the symmetries – often concentric – and by the kinetic effects studied with devoted abandon, is drawn to the infinite reflections and projections that never cease to impress. the gaze “(Manuela Antonucci).
