Simone Lingua

Cuneo, 1981

He began his training at the Academy of Fine Arts Florence. The beginnings of his artistic career are to be found in painting. The first studies related to kinetic art date from 2010 and are applied to the architectural design of the facades of Prada in Las Vegas, Shanghai and Sydney.

The exhibition marks the beginning of his career in Italy and abroad.

Between 2016 and 2018 he exhibited in institutional and private spaces including Pan – Palazzo delle Arti Napoli, Musée du Louvre (Paris), Castello Estense (Ferrara), Palazzo Bentivoglio Gualtieri (Reggio Emilia), Galleria Accorsi (Turin), Villa Mazzucchelli Museum (Brescia), Bratislava Castle, De Nittis Foundation (Barletta), Sarzana Castle, Mirabilia Gallery (Reggio Emilia), Idearte Gallery (Ferrara), Dôme – Elephant Paname (Paris), Sorrento Foundation and Galleria TAG (Lugano).

His work received the Award for Best Conceptual Artwork at Palazzo Gagliardi (Vibo Valentia, 2016).

In 2018, he signed the project Ninfea, curated by Tiziana Tommei: a temporary and site-specific installation conceived and created exclusively for the bathtub in Piazza delle Sorgenti in the thermal town of Bagno Vignoni. This work opens a new period in Lingua’s creative path, focusing his attention on a heterogeneity of materials and techniques, with forays into the field of design, a sector he had already undertaken in the past, through the design and prototyping of the first example of an acoustic enclosure in Murano glass (2016).

The first results of experiments unrelated to kinetics are from September 2018, later summarized under the title Contemporary Illusions. This is a concept that aims to bring to life an unprecedented dialogue between art and architecture through mirrored surfaces, applied to large-scale art installations. To date, these studies have involved the cities of Florence, Pisa, Rome and Naples through a complete planning, also on a technical level, but still open.

Meanwhile, he continued his research in the field of kinetics, both in the identifying forms of his production, especially sculpture, and in new sectors: in 2019, from the transposition of concepts and forms -already experimented in a plastic and installation key – into the world of goldsmith creation, the brand Klinve – Kinetic Jewels was born.

In January 2020, he exhibited with a solo show at the church Santa Maria della Spina in Pisa, presenting for the occasion a selection of works of kinetic art alongside unpublished works, including the project The Hole, part of Contemporary Illusions.

In 2021 he signs the collaboration with Bvlgari for Expo 2020 Dubai (October 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022), conceiving the Sotiria project exclusively for the maison: a kinetic and site-specific installation of 150 square meters, intended for the central section of the Italian Pavilion and inspired by the theme ” Beauty Connects People “.

Since 2017 Tiziana Tommei is his curator and artist consultant, whose research focuses heavily on the work of emerging artists.

Since 1998, the artist has lived in Tuscany, a place he has made his own since his academic years in Florence. However, he is anything but sedentary and his creative vision is nourished by his continuous dynamism, in a journey that, even before it is physical and geographical, is a mental state that he casts and shapes on an artistic level.
